[livejournal.com profile] magog_83 posted about these really amazing 17th & 18th century recipe books that have been digitized at Wellcome Library. I rummaged around a bit more at that site and found this:

"Harris’s List was published annually from 1760 to 1794 in print-runs of some 8000 copies. It listed the names and addresses of London prostitutes – ‘Covent Garden Ladies’with notes about their particular erotic specialities. Few copies now survive because it was not exactly the sort of publication that sat comfortably in a gentleman’s library, available for perusal by wives and servants."
